“Not Under The Law”

One of the many statements I heard growing up is that Christians are under the “law of Christ,” meaning they are “not under the Torah of G-d.” Yet, none of them genuinely know what this mysterious “law of Christ” is. Upon conducting a simple internet search, you would find such vague statements like:

“It has been suggested that “the law of Christ” could be an allusion to the second greatest commandment (“love thy neighbor”) or the New Commandment (“love one another; as I have loved you”). Others suggest this phrase is just another name for “the law of G-d” as Christians believe the Messiah is G-d.”

That means that nobody knows what the “law of Christ” is. The phrase is used only once in the entire Bible, Galatians 6:2. But when we turn to a more Hebraic translation, like the TLV, it renders it as “the Torah of Messiah.” The Complete Jewish Bible takes it further and says: “the Torah’s true meaning, which the Messiah upholds.”

The Law Is The Law

In John 14:15, Yeshua says: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” But this is not the first use of this phrase in scripture. A variant of this statement is made a whole eighteen times in scripture. The first nine of those times it is in the Books Of The Torah (Exodus 20:3-6, Deuteronomy 5:8-10, 7:9-11, 10:12-13, 11:1, 11:13-14, 11:22-23, 19:8-9, 30:16). That means half of the uses of this phrase in scripture are in The Torah referring to the commandments of G-d in The Torah. Yeshua, in John 14:15, reiterates that if you love Him as you love The Father, you will keep His commandments, which is the Torah.

Yeshua also said: “I and The Father are ONE” (John 10:30, emphasis added). The idea that the”law of Christ” differs from The Torah of G-d is nonsense. Such beliefs exists only to justify in the mind of the modern-day lawless believer that they do not have to keep commandments like the food laws (Lev. 11, Deut. 14), The Sabbath Day (Gen. 2:1-3, Ex. 20:8-11), the biblical Feast Days (Lev. 23), and many others.

What Does Scritpure Say?

However, here’s the deal, even IF there is such a thing as a “law of Christ” that is separate or different than The Torah of G-d, it does not mean The Torah is obsolete or inferior. But let is examine what scripture has to say on this matter.

So the dragon became enraged at the woman and went off to make war with the rest of her offspring—those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Yeshua.

Revelation 12:17, TLV

Wait, what? Those who keep the commandments? This literally means“those who keep the commandments of G-d and the faith of “Yeshau (Jesus). To have the “testimony of Jesus” is to live a “Christlike” life in the world, i.e., to have the same “testimony” that Yeshua manifested in his life. Some translations use “faith” as a substitute for “testimony,” which indicates having the same “faith” Yeshua had, i.e., living in the same relationship with G-d as Jesus had (John 17:20). This understanding is further substantiated by John’s use of an identical grammatical structure in 2:13 and 13:10.

Here is the perseverance of the kedoshim—those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Yeshua.

In other words, the people defined as holy and the people who are the only true enemy of Satan are those who BOTH keep the commandments of G-d and the testimony/faith of Yeshua. The commandments of G-d here can ONLY be a reference to The Torah as given through the prophet Moses. So even IF there is a completely separate and distinct “law of Christ”, something mentioned only one time in the whole Bible, Revelation here makes it clear that this “law of Christ” is not a replacement of The Torah.

If we were to be more technical there are two components of G-d’s people mentioned. The first is the covenant community first formed through the covenant at Sinai, those who keep G-d’s commandments. The second is the renewed covenant community gathered to Messiah from every tribe, language, people, and nation and formed as a kingdom of priests (1:6; 5:10); they are those who maintain their testimony for Yeshua. One and the same covenant.

The Lawless One

The Torah instructs us (Deut. 18:15-19) that there will be a prophet like Moses that we are to ‘shema’ (hear, listen to, follow, obey), and we are told in Acts 3 and Acts 7 that this prophet like Moses is Yeshua. This would mean that IF there is a unique “law of Christ”, such a law falls under the banner of the original commandment to follow Yeshua, the prophet like Moses, within the commandments of The Torah. That means that any “law of Christ” is simply part of The Torah, not separate from it at all, because Yeshua and The Father are ONE. Therefore, it follows that the Torah and any “law of Christ” are indeed ONE.

The fact is that the only character in the entire Bible that ever sought to usurp and call into question the commandment of G-d through humanity is the serpent in Genesis 3. His first message to mankind was “Did G-d really say? You won’t die if you do that.” The fact is that The Bible calls Satan the lawless one (2 Thessalonians 2:8-9) and lawlessness is defined biblically as “breaking The Torah” (1 John 3:4) and The Bible calls Yeshua The Righteous One (Isaiah 53:11) and righteousness is defined in The Bible as obeying The Torah (Deut. 6:25). Yeshua himself warned what would happen to those who practice Torahlessness (lawlessness) in Matthew 7:21-23.

It doesn’t take much to figure out from here who is behind getting Christians to think that phrases like “not under the law” and “nailed to the cross” mean that they “do not need to follow the commandments of G-d” as Christians. Satan is the one behind this mindset, and he is deceiving billions of people WHILE THEY SIT IN THEIR CHURCHES being taught the deception that started with “Did G-d really say? You won’t go to hell for that. G-d doesn’t care if you eat pork, shellfish, or other unclean things. He doesn’t care if you don’t keep The Sabbath. He doesn’t care if you celebrate pagan Catholic holidays instead of His Holy Days.” Wake up Church and come out of Babylon!

Conlusion

Yeshua and The Father are ONE. Yeshua’s law is The Torah. There is no separation, distinction, or replacement. To follow The Torah, in its fullness, including the commandment in Deut. 18:15-19, is to follow Yeshua. Anything else is dead religion that will lead you to death on the same broad path to destruction that the rest of the world is following.

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’
